Hi, I'm Andy. I started my career in print design, and what a journey it has been since paste-up and wax coaters — all the way to building this portfolio in Claude AI.
Currently, I lead the design team at Self Financial. The mission to help average people get to a better credit score safely has been really fulfilling, and has shown me what I love most about what design can do in a way you can feel.
I've been lucky enough to have a background that has had a great deal of variety. I've helped solve problems at small and large scale, and got to learn the ins and outs of several industries I never thought I'd work in. It has taught me so much about how being curious and having empathy is what drives really powerful design.
I care a lot about craft. Not in a precious way — in a "this tiny detail will matter to someone" way. I believe the best design happens when you stop trying to impress and start trying to understand. Then you make it look good.
I have a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, where I originally intended to major in Painting until I took one design course, fell hard, and never looked back.
